Mr. Stephen S. Yoder joined Pieris as Chief Executive Officer in January 2010. Prior to joining Pieris, from July 2003 to December 2010 he led the intellectual property and legal departments at MorphoSys AG, a biotechnology company involved in the development and research of antibodies, as General Counsel. Prior to MorphoSys AG, from September 1999 to June 2003 he worked in several Washington, D.C. law firms, specializing in a life sciences intellectual property practice. Mr. Yoder holds degrees in molecular biology and Spanish from Grove City College and a Juris Doctorate, with honors, from The George Washington University Law School. As an attorney, he is licensed to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and in the jurisdictions of Maryland and Washington, D.C.
James Geraghty joined the Board of Directors of Pieris in May 2017. He is an industry leader with 30 years of strategic and leadership experience, including more than 20 years as a senior member of executive teams at biotechnology companies developing and commercializing innovative therapies. Until 2016, Mr. Geraghty was an Entrepreneur in Residence at Third Rock Ventures, a leading biotech venture and company-formation fund, and previously served as Senior Vice President, North America Strategy and Business Development at Sanofi, which he joined upon its acquisition of Genzyme. Mr. Geraghty spent 20 years at Genzyme, where his roles included Senior Vice President International Development, President of Genzyme Europe, and General Manager of Genzyme's cardiovascular business. Mr. Geraghty also oversaw Genzyme's Humanitarian Assistance for Neglected Diseases (HAND) program, under which the company supported innovative development programs on a non-commercial basis. Mr. Geraghty is Chairman of the Board of Idera Pharmaceuticals and Juniper Pharmaceuticals and serves on the Board of Voyager Therapeutics and Fulcrum Therapeutics. He is also a member of the BIO Ventures for Global Health Board of Directors. He started his career in healthcare strategy consulting at Bain and Company. A graduate of the Yale Law School, Mr. Geraghty holds a M.S. from the University of Pennsylvania and a B.A. from Georgetown University.
Mr. Michael Richman joined the Board of Directors of Pieris Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in December 2014. He is co-founder of NextCure, Inc. and serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Company since 2015. Mr. Richman was previously President and Chief Executive Officer of Amplimmune, Inc., a biologics company focused on cancer and autoimmune diseases that was acquired by AstraZeneca plc. Prior to such time, Mr. Richman has gained years of experience working in research, intellectual property and business development capacities in companies such as Chiron Corporation (now Novartis), MedImmune, Inc. (now Astra Zeneca) and MacroGenics. He is a member of the board of directors of Opexa Therapeutics, Inc. and GenVec, Inc., both public companies, Madison Vaccines, Inc., a private company, and was previously director of Cougar Biotechnology until its acquisition by Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Richman obtained his B.S. in genetics/molecular biology at the University of California at Davis and his M.S.B.A. in international business at San Francisco State University.
Steven Prelack. Mr. Prelack joined the Board of Directors of Pieris effective upon the closing of the Acquisition. Mr. Prelack is the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of VetCor, which owns and operates veterinary hospitals across the United States, and has served in this position since June 2012. Prior to that time and since May 2010, Mr. Prelack served at VetCor as Senior Vice President of Operations and as Chief Financial Officer. From 2001 until May 2010, he was the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of VelQuest Corporation, a provider of automated compliance software solutions for the pharmaceutical industry. Mr. Prelack is currently the audit committee chair of Aerpio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a publicly traded clinical-stage biotechnology company engaged in drug research and development to create new therapies for ocular disease. Mr Prelack was formerly a director and audit committee chair of Galectin Therapeutics, Inc., and for BioVex Group publicly traded clinical-stage biotechnology companies engaged in drug research and development to create new therapies for fibrotic disease and cancer and infectious diseases. BioVex was sold to Amgen in 2011. Mr. Prelack is a Certified Public Accountant, received a B.B.A. degree from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1979 and is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors. We believe that Mr. Prelack adds value to our Board of Directors due to his extensive executive leadership experience, director experience within the biotechnology sector and his many years serving in senior financial and operational management roles.
Dr. Jean-Pierre Bizzari joined the Board of Directors of Pieris in May 2015. Dr. Bizzari was the Executive Vice President, Group Head, Clinical Oncology Development at Celgene Corporation. Since joining Celgene in 2008, he directed the development and approval of a number of leading oncology products including REVLIMID®, VIDAZA®, ISTODAX®, and ABRAXANE®.Dr. Bizzari joined the pharmaceutical industry in 1983 as Head of Oncology at the Institut de Recherches Internationales SERVIER (France). From 1993 to 2002 he served as Vice President, Clinical Development Oncology at Rhône-Poulenc Rorer (Aventis). From 2002 until 2008, Dr. Bizzari was the Vice President of Clinical Oncology Development at Sanofi-Aventis (Sanofi-Synthelabo from 2002 to 2004) where he oversaw the approval of ELOXATIN®, TAXOTERE® and ELITEK®. He has published more than 70 articles in peer review journals and more than 160 abstracts in scientific congresses. Dr. Bizzari is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of France's National Cancer Institute and Netrix Pharma, and serves on the board of Halozyme Therapeutics, Inc., Celator Pharmaceuticals, Inc., iTeos Therapeutics S.A., Onxeo S.A., Theravectys S.A. and Transgene S.A. Dr. Bizzari received his medical degree from the University of Nice (France). He is a specialist in oncology, having trained at La Pitié-Salpêtrière hospital in Paris, followed by training at the Ontario Cancer Institute and McGill Cancer Center.
Julian Adams, Ph.D., joined the board of directors in July 2016 and is Chairman & Chief Executive Officer for Gamida Cell. Previously, Dr. Adams was Chief Science Officer and President of Clal Biotechnology Industries and, prior to that, was President of Research & Development of Infinity. Prior to joining Infinity, Dr. Adams served as Senior Vice President, Drug Discovery and Development at Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he led the development of bortezomib, also known as Velcade®. Dr. Adams served as Senior Vice President, Research and Development at LeukoSite Inc., a private biopharmaceutical company, from July 1999 until its acquisition by Millennium Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in December 1999. Dr. Adams also served as a director and Executive Vice President of Research and Development at ProScript, Inc., a private biopharmaceutical company, from 1994 until it's acquisition by LeukoSite Inc. in 1999. Prior to joining ProScript, Inc., Dr. Adams held a variety of positions with Boehringer Ingelheim, a private pharmaceutical company, and Merck & Co., Inc., a publicly traded pharmaceutical company. Dr. Adams served as a director of Aileron Therapeutics, Inc., a privately held biopharmaceutical company, from 2011 and to 2013, a director of Warp Drive Bio, LLC, a privately held life sciences company, since 2013, and a director of the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation since November 2014. Dr. Adams received a B.S. from McGill University and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the field of synthetic organic chemistry.
Mr. Kiritsy is a co-founder of Arisaph Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and has served as Arisaph's President and Chief Executive Officer since 2005. Prior to Arisaph, Mr. Kiritsy served as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development and Chief Financial Officer of Kos Pharmaceuticals, Inc., where he played a key operating role in building the company from start-up to highly profitable, publicly traded, commercial company. During his 10-year tenure at Kos, Mr. Kiritsy spearheaded more than 10 major corporate development transactions and raised approximately $500 million in public equity, including Kos's initial public offering. Kos was acquired by Abbott Laboratories for $3.7 billion in 2016. Mr. Kiritsy is a seasoned entrepreneur, who possesses more than 20 years of business and technical experience, previously holding senior management positions in R&D, business development and finance.
